Course Description:

Purpose

 

T0 enable students with disabilities to acquire career knowledge and skills necessary to identify career options, access community resources and apply work-related behaviors.

Units of Instruction

l. Self-Assessment; 2. Decision making.  3. Self-determination and self-advocacy

4.Career selection; 5. Community resources related to career decisions;  6.Workplace competencies.

Length of course

1-3 years

Pre-requisites

Career Education or Career Experience.

Textbook & Resource Materials

Field and/or community based applications, hands on material and assignments.

 

Instructional Philosophy:  

Expectations

This course requires hands-on application based learning. Hands-on experience working independently and as part of a team. Personal growth and responsibility for communication of wants and needs.

Opportunities

Students will have the opportunity to explore career choices through community experiences and researching of different career clusters.

Proficiency

Student will maintain 70% or better on their Work Evaluations and Teacher Evaluations...

 

Course Goals: By the end of the course, in a variety of ways, students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the following major concepts:

1.

Express insights into what a job involves so that you can assess whether the occupation is suitable for them.

2.

Gain useful skills that are recognized in the workplace.

3.

Gain confidence in their ability to learn and become competent in new tasks.

4.

Gain work/life skills, i.e. communicating effectively, working as part of a team, and understanding of the hierarchy of supervision.

5.

Appropriate behavior in a structured, supervised work environment.

6.

Gain an understanding of who you can and cannot use in job resume...

Work performance evaluations submitted by student’s supervisor and OJT coordinator.

Time Cards

40%

Completed time card at the end of the 9 weeks with required signatures turned in on time. 10 points will be take off if card is late

** Absences must be excused before any make up work can be accepted for credit.  The student will have 3 school days to turn in an excuse and have a day for each consecutive day absent to turn in the work missed.

Class Rules

1.

Students are required to notify OJT Coordinator (941-6150 ext.243) and employer (student will have number) as soon as possible when absent. (NO EXCUSESE).

2.

Excessive absences mean the student is “unreliable” and may need to be in classes all day.

3.

Paid employment students are required to leave campus when OJT classes are scheduled even if they are not scheduled to work that particular day.

4.

Suspensions will result in a letter grade drop and possible return to classes.

5.

Students will follow the follow the rules in the Student Handbook of Rights and Responsibilities.

6.

Student will follow all bus rules while riding to and from work on the bus.

 

Class Procedures

1.

OJT students will check in with teacher in room 607 before leaving for their job site.

2.

Students arriving back to the campus from their job site will report to room 607 and fill timecard out for the day. Work on lesson for the day. Students stay in room 607 until their next class.

3.

Cell phone use is not allowed in room 607.

4.

Cell phones cannot be charged in room 607.
