Essential Question(s)

What are your strengths?

What are your accommodations?

What strategies do you use when studying?

How can you make use of the study guide to ensure that you have learned the material presented in Physical Science?  

How would you compare memorizing what is on the study guide to knowing the concepts that will be included on the test?

Objectives:

When asked about their particular learning styles, students will identify their strengths and explain how they relate to learning.

When asked about their particular learning styles, students will identify their weaknesses and explain the strategies they use to compensate for learning difficulties.

After participating in Learning Strategies students will acquire interpersonal skills that help them to function as a class and a team.  Students will acquire social skills and communication skills.  Students will improve their abilities to make decisions.

Students will interact with others in the class.They will interact as teammates.  They will improve their ability to verbalize their point of view and show respect for others.

Students will practice skills and procedures for learning. They will engage in learning that promotes different perspectives of classroom participation. Students will learn alternative methods of sharing ideas and responsibilities for class assignments.   

10 Expectations of students who have Learning Strategies

1.  Students will maintain organized notebooks for each course including Learning Strategies.

 

2.  Students will manage their time wisely and plan for completing assignments in a timely manner.

 

3.  Students will work on assignments from other classes.

 

4.  Students will set goals and be determined to earn a diploma.

 

5.  Students will self advocate.

 

6.  Students will organize themselves in learning communities to complete assignments.

 

7.  Students will redo failing assignments.

 

8.   Students will complete assignments given by Dr. Travis.

 

9.  Students will ready, write, and study everyday and every weeknight.

 

10.  Students will complete assignments during the weekend as needed.

Differentiation Strategy: Numbered Heads

Numbered Heads is a cooperative learning strategy that requires students to work together in teams to answer questions.  Each student has a number and all students on the team put their heads together to come up with their best answers.
